Happy new year!! I hope everyone had a happy holiday season! Ours was busy so I am glad to be getting back to a normal pace. There are a few things I want to mention so, here we go...
Our next meet up date is January 19th at 10AM at the park on Bayview. Please let me know if you have questions!
Please join us on Facebook for more up to date information as I am sometimes delayed in updating the blog. https://www.facebook.com/SugarLakesMoms
If you didn't make it to the first meet up you missed out! The kids played happily for about 2 hours while the moms chatted . My son did not want to leave but passed out before we made it home. We have some really wonderful families in our neighborhood. I was so glad to hear the other moms talking about ideas they had for get togethers as well as good family outing ideas in the Houston area. We definitely have some creative people in the bunch! Please feel free to add your own get togethers here or on our Facebook page!
I would like to begin compiling a list of families and email addresses so that we can stay in contact. If you would like to be on our email list please email me, Wendy, at wmnpatterson@gmail.com. I promise this is not for spam or forwards!
One last thing before I sign off, a few days after our first meet up my elderly neighbor across the street was burglarized while she was working in her back yard. A man came up to her while she was working offering her yard services and keeping her busy while another man broke in through her front door. They did not take the obvious big items like a TV or computer. They took small items like jewelery. My guess would be things that they could pawn easily. My neighbor was not harmed. She said the man made a quick excuse to leave all of a sudden and got in his truck and sped away as she was getting suspicious. She said she did not realize someone had been in the house until later when she saw the front door open.
This is just a reminder for all of us to be extra cautious!!
I am looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

High Hopes
*Reminder*
The first meet up is on December 8, 10AM at the park on Sugar Lakes Dr. by the clubhouse!
When I originally got the idea to start this meet up group I just wanted to meet other moms in the neighborhood. When I really began thinking about it I started having all kinds of lofty ideas. As a larger group we could bring a lot of great things right into our neighborhood. There are benefits to working in numbers and Sugar Lakes has great facilities waiting to be used!
To name a couple ideas...
A private swim instructor who teaches survival swim classes in private pools
A CPR and other classes for parents (or kids!)
Compiling a list of reliable, mom approved, neighborhood babysitters
Trick or Treating safely with neighbors you know
I am sure you could think of a few as well.
If in the end I just meet a few of you I think it will be worth the effort!
Please join our group on Facebook!

Introduction
We moved from Houston, where most of our friends still live, and have never really met anyone in our community. While at a friend's house for a party, I noticed how well she knew her neighbors after living there only a short time. They all had children ranging in age. I thought it was really nice that they had such a great community. I have often wondered about our neighbors but have not really made an effort to meet anyone. Now that we have established a life out here I would love to get to know some you.
I have such wonderful "mom" support with my friends. We often call each other for sick, hurt or fussy kid advice, recommendations for anything from babysitters to preschools or just for a play date. It would be nice to get to know the kids that my kids will be going to school and playing sports with, and just to have that support network closer to home.
I would like to set up a meet up at the park (or pool during the summer) one Saturday a month. No pressure or obligation because I know we are all busy, just if you can.
If you would like to join us and meet other parents and kids in the neighborhood I am planning the first meet up at the playground on Sugar Lakes Drive by the club house on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 10:00AM.
To keep in touch please follow this blog. Feel free to reply under the comments section. I know some of us are working around nap times etc. This is meant for families so dads are always welcome!
